He'eia Estuary Then & Now: 2013 & 2016

Two years ago we were lucky to announce the beginning of our work to remove mangrove and other invasive plants from the estuary of He'eia Stream.  It was quite an undertaking but we have come a long way and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of many project partners, supportive landowners, other non-profits and and helping hands from the communty!  In two years, over 3 acres of mangrove have been removed, thousands of native coastal plants have been out-planted, and over 1000 volunteers have spent nearly 3000 hours of their time lending a hand to these efforts.
 
Throughout 2017, we will continue to host Third Saturday workdays at the He'eia Estuary Restoration Site as we work to clear another acre of mangrove and invasive vegetation, out-plant more coastal native species and work for funding to expand and increase opportunities for educational field trips!
