Holiday Giving Tree

Picture
Hui o Ko'olaupoko thrives off of community support, generosity, and participation.
As a nonprofit organization, we run entirely on donations, grants, and grassroots collaboration.
We could not do it without your kokua!

Our holiday giving tree is designed to inspire philanthropy throughout the community, bringing joy to the holidays through giving. Here, you can see your direct impact on our restoration projects instead of a blind donation. The concept of the giving tree brings out the best in people during this season, and we hope it brings you joy as much as it brings us gratitude.

Native Plants

Your donation will provide five native plants for one of HOK's project sites.  We are currently planning about 1,000 square feet of native Hawaiian planter beds at our He'eia Estuary Restoration Project! We want this area to be a beautiful destination for the community to view and learn about a variety of native plants. The plants received through this donation will include medicinal La'au Lapa'au, edible plants and herbs, and other important indigenous and endemic plant species. We will need as many plants as we can get our hands on, on top of propagating and seed collecting that we will be doing in-house. Check out our volunteer calendar to see when you can plant your gift!

Field Work - Sweat - Labor

This donation provides additional funding to support our field staff & interns who work incredibly hard to maintain our restoration sites. They are in the field Wednesday through Saturday clearing out invasive plants, planting and propagating native plants, and taking care of our gardens.

Equipment & Tools

Without tools we could not efficiently carry out our work of restoring degraded habitats to healthy & functioning native ecosystems. Each week, our field staff and volunteers use a range of hand tools and power tools that need regular upkeep and replacement. With so much hard work going on, the equipment seems to age more quickly than can be replaced. Take a look at our volunteer calendar to see when you can come use your gift!

Keiki Field Trip

HOK offers environmental Education Field Trips free of charge to schools, so your donation provides support for two HOK staff to host a four hour field experience to connect keiki to the 'āina. The keiki get the opportunity to join our field staff and learn about watershed health while helping to collect native seeds, propagate plants, weed out invasive plants, and plant native species.
